Bring a Matterport scan

Already scanned a home with Matterport? Its E57 export holds every scanner position's 360° photo and exactly where it was taken. Upload that one file and we turn it into a splat you can walk through in a browser.

What you need

Works
  • ·A scan made with a Matterport Pro-grade camera: Pro2, Pro3, or a Leica BLK360 on Matterport.
  • ·The E57 file for that model, bought in Matterport Cloud (below).
  • ·The property owner’s permission, if it isn’t your scan.
Doesn't work
  • ·Scans made with a phone or a consumer 360 camera. Matterport doesn’t sell an E57 for those.
  • ·A MatterPak download. It has no panoramas in it.
  • ·An E57 you’ve converted, cropped or re-saved in another program.

Get the E57 from Matterport

  • ·You need a Matterport Professional plan or higher. Add-ons like E57 are only offered there.
  • ·In Matterport Cloud, open the model, go to Add-ons and buy E57 for it. Matterport charges for this, per model.
  • ·When Matterport has prepared it, download the .e57 file. Expect it to be large: 5–30 GB for a house.
  • ·Upload the .e57 exactly as Matterport gave it to you. Don't unzip it, convert it or rename the extension.

Upload it

  • ·On twinbly.com, go to Create and choose Matterport scan (E57).
  • ·Pick the .e57. Your browser reads the scan’s table of contents (a few MB at the end of the file) and shows how many scanner positions it has, and the price, before anything uploads.
  • ·One file per job, up to 50 GB.
  • ·A big upload takes a while: 18 GB is about 25 minutes at 100 Mbit/s. Keep the tab open. If the upload stops, choose the same file again and it picks up where it left off.

What you get

  • ·An interior splat. It's sharp where the scanner stood. It's softer where no scanner position could see, like behind furniture or inside closets. More scanner positions means fewer soft spots.
  • ·High-detail tiles on bigger homes. When a scan has enough positions, the interior is refined in tiles that stream together as one scene.
  • ·There’s no alignment step. Matterport already knows where every photo was taken, so the usual reason a capture fails to line up can’t happen here.
  • ·The result is in real metres with the right way up, so it can later be placed next to a drone capture of the same building.

How long, and what it costs

  • ·The price is per scanner position. You see it before you upload, and nothing is charged until the job runs.
  • ·After the upload, we unpack and check the scan, then train. The first splat is usually ready in about an hour. High-detail tiles follow after that.
  • ·We recount the scanner positions from the uploaded file. If the count doesn’t match what your browser saw, we stop before training and you aren’t charged.

If something goes wrong

“This isn’t an E57 file”

This isn’t an E57 file. In Matterport, buy the E57 add-on for this model and upload the .e57 it gives you.

“No panoramas in this scan”

This E57 has no 360° photos in it — only the point cloud. Re-export it from Matterport with panoramas included (MatterPak won’t work either).

“This E57 looks incomplete”

This E57 is shorter than its own header says, which usually means the download from Matterport didn’t finish. Download it again and upload the new copy.

“The scan changed after we priced it”

The file has a different number of scanner positions than we counted in your browser, so we stopped before training. Nothing was charged. Upload it again to get a fresh price.

“We couldn’t line the photos up with the scan”

The photos in this E57 don’t match its laser scan the way a Matterport export should, so we stopped before training. Nothing was charged. Send us the model link and we’ll look.

“This scan is over 50 GB”

E57 uploads can be up to 50 GB. Contact us if your scan is bigger.
